Edinburgh shines brightly out of the Scottish fog

As a history buff, I just had to visit Edinburgh while in Scotland. From Edinburgh Castle perched high on the extinct volcano, to the gates of Holyrood Palace, every inch of the Royal Mile seems imbued with countless stories of tragedy, terror, and triumph. Edinburgh has been a home to people since the Bronze Age, and no trip to Scotland is complete without a visit.

I’d heard some horror stories about Edinburgh hotels, but I needn’t have worried. My room is a decent price for being so close to the Royal Mile, featuring a decanter of sherry on the nightstand, a welcome treat after walking in the driving rain all day. I’m anticipating a leisurely dinner in some out-of-the-way place that serves up authentic haggis with tatties, or maybe some Cullen Skink and single-malt scotch. If things keep going this well, I just might stay forever.
